Default Rear end clunk

Need some help guys. Here's the deal. First let me state I just had the trans rebuilt new torque converter. 4WD works perfectly drives and shifts very well. On VERY few occasions I can feel like the rearend skips a beat. I can feel and hear a clunk. When it does happen it can happen at all speeds. Now here's the funny part. I can stop and turn it off, turn it back on and it stops doing it. Might not happen again for a long time!Days, weeks!!Feels like the rear end is trying to lock or unlock????? Definitely coming from the back. What do you guys think?? Thanks in advance.

How many miles you have on her. What`s the year of your ride? When`s the last time you`ve had the rear end serviced?

It sounds like the governor in your G 80 gov lock is sticking/failing. It's cheaper to fix it before it turns into a maraca.

With that many miles it could be a couple of things. So you said it isn`t squeaking while driving,so you can rule out the u joints. But check the u joints anyway, they may be loose or bad.Grease the u joints while your under there.Possibilty the carrier bearing maybe going out, or the hub bearings are going out.The governor maybe failing.Jack up the rear end of the truck, place your 2 jack stands underneath each side of the truck, place the wheel stops in front.Have someone get in the truck, drive it through all of the gears slowly.Tell him or her to put in reverse spin the wheels.Put it back in drive or 1 st gear ,Make sure to drive through all of the gear`s once gain.If the bearings are going bad, you`ll hear them it would have a clunking or humming sound. But the sound may appear only if and when there`s weight on the tires. If the governor is going bad, you will hear it trying to engage and disengage.Grab the drive shaft area where it connects to the rear end,try and see if there`s play in it while you try to wiggle it up and down.If you have lots of play, then the carrier bearing has failed. If you still can`t figure it out,if you have the funds?Take to a shop that knows how to work on and trouble shoot rear ends.Let them give you an opinion on what the problem could be.Always get a second opinion.Let`s just hope it isn`t anything to serious. With xmas coming up, funds are tight.

I had a 1998 S-10 4X4 and I had the same thing.... Check the ring and pinion... I had two teeth missing on the ring.
