Default Rear end leaking

I went to brake masters and they inspected my truck. Front discs and pads need doing and so do the rear pads and drums. Upon inspection the driver side rear pads were perfect but covered in oil/tranny fluid from the rear. The guy took me out and had me spin the hub and you could feel tons of grinding in the bearing. I just pulled out my Haynes manual and it looks to be a chore to do it. I've never drained the rear diff before and that looks easy but the C-lock kind of confusses me. The guy said there might be some damage to the rear axles itself because of this but I'm not too sure about that. If I blow a seal then it's been lubbed from the beginning and now I have to replace the bearing and the seal that's all, not a whole new rearend. If that seal is broken who's to say I have any fluid left in my rearend now and if those rear gears are any good?

Anyone got some ideas?

Honestly if youve never done that type of stuff dont do it unless you have someone who knows what their doing to help and watch you do it, if done wrong it can be damaging to the rear big time.. dont drive it tho it`ll just get destroyed if theers no fluid left in it, The axle seal is what went bad thats why its leaking 90 weight fluid very thick... and it smells like hell esp when its burnt.. But in all honesty its not a hard thing to fix but i dont recommend it to someone to do if there not sure on how to do it.. If i knew where you lived and i was close i`d help ya wth it....

Removing the axle isn't the hardest part of this repair. Removing the race in the axle tube can be quite difficult. There are a number of different tricks/methods of removing the race, but several of them can result in permanent damage to the axle if done incorrectly.
