Default rear end noise

So I just noticed a 'click click click click' sound coming from the rear end of my 96 blazer 4x4 when The rear wheels are moving. Drive shaft is secure. any ideas? I know it's rather vague description but I don't know how else to describe it.

Thanks,

J

Are you hearing this while driving or have you jacked the truck up and listened? First make sure there aren't any rocks in you tires they can make weird sounds sometimes, next after raising the vehicle and supporting it securely have someone put the truck in gear and check for the noise. Could be a bad bearing on either axle, which are very easy to replace.

I had the blazer jacked up and was hearing the sound. Would a u-joint also be a possibility?

I think the rear end is TOAST! Went to go pick up a new set of u joints, turned out of the parking lot at my place and BANG! so I stopped. Looked under the rig, everything was intacted. Started moving again at less than 5 mph and BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG,,,,don't think it's the u-joint now. rear end at the local wrecking yard are 450 bucks....

well, you have a 96 so i really doubt your rear end is that much money at the junk yard.

i can go to any junk yard within at least 100 miles of me and pick up a 98+ rear end with disc brakes for $180.. a drum setup for even less.

also, just to be a dick i see in your sig that you think your blazer has a 4.7L. why are you here if you dont even know what size your engine is.

****. Rearends in these are a breeze to rebuild with the correct tools and a little bit of knowledge. Just did my first a few months ago and it went without a hitch.
