The answer to my question is here.
1982-2005 Chevy / GMC S10 (9/16 Bolt) - Rear of Rear Shackle Kit - M1755 | $24.95 I will update when I get them. |
Nice find!!! Disregard my pm then.
|
found some on ebay,GM parts(contacted seller, did a non ebay transaction)
$50.00 for both shipped w/ bolts etc. WHAT ABOUT THE BUSHING?...THINKING ITS A BALL BUSTER IN PUT IN...JUST FORGET IT????? |
Where I'm at is: first bolt in frame zipped right out. I thought I had it made. The other three are frozen. I ruined the bushing in the left spring. Cut the head off to get shackle off and drilled the bushing out. Ordered a bushing from the same place. Not sure how I'm going to get it in but have some ideas.

silent block?

What is a silent block?

982-2005 Chevy / GMC S10 (9/16 Bolt) - Rear of Rear Shackle Kit - M1755 | $24.95
part included in your shackle kit |
I see what you mean now. When the parts get here I plan to try 1/2'' all thread, nuts and washers to push the silent block in the frame. I also hope this will work on the bushing for the spring.

2000 jimmmy 4 dr
more rust than i thought wish i never bought this dog started on shackles, going to borrow a bigger impact i thought the bushing was in the spring, but looks to be in the frame? |
Here is what I've done so far. I used the 41/2'' grinder with a cut off blade to cut the head off of the three bolts that I couldn't budge with my impact. Turning them with my breaker bar only ruined the bushings. After the heads were cut off I used a pry bar to bend the shackles to get them off. BTW the nuts all came off without a fight.
On the drivers side I used a drill on the rubber until it was loose enough to get it out. I used a monkey wrench on the thread side of the bolt to turn the rubber out. I did this on the spring and the silent block in the frame. The right side I used a propane torch on the spring and got it hot enough that when I turned it with the wrench it popped right out. The silent block wasn't as easy to heat up so I used a combination of heat and the drill. Again turning it out with the monkey wrench. I then used my new sawzall and a metal blade to cut the metal part of the bushings out. A little finagling with pry bars, screw driver, and a hammer was required. The spring has a bit of rusty scale inside. I tried using a round file with little success. I don't have any air tools but I plan to head to town to see what I can get to put in my drill to clean it out. My parts are scheduled to come late today. The plan is to put the rubber in the freezer and hope it shrinks a little then lube them up with hand sanitizer. Then use a little heat on the spring and some 1/2'' All-thread and nuts and washers to pull it all together. The silent block looks like it will be easy, it's the spring I'm worried about. All I can do is hope this works. I didn't go with the genuine GM parts due to limited funds. I don't do any off road stuff. It's mostly a winter ride and a extra vehicle in the summer. |
well, i knocked off 50 lbs rust...haha
if i was in a real shop the 3/4" impact might destroy something...lol i am on the right side,now...going to use the cutting torch also need a NEW REAR cover on axle.rusted.leaking |
got the frame bushing out,now the spring.
they show in the factory service manual, removing the spring and using an arbor press....oh its an easy job ONLY 4 BOLTS ON EACH SIDE BAAAAAAAAAA |
2 bolts
|
also where can i order on line the spring rubber,p/n?
|
1/2 inch threaded rod and some big washers welded to some 1/2 washers is what i did when i put shackles in my blazer
|
If you haven't found the bushings for the springs yet I may be able to help you. I Haven't sent the four RB117 (1 1/2'' OD) back yet. They were the wrong size for me. I also have two RB136 (1 3/4'' OD)I didn't use. They would only sell me a set of four.
|
haven't got the spring bush out yet,did order one from AZ,but didnt pick up yet.
which is which, the spring dia. looks larger |
not az,advance auto
|
I never thought to look at Advance auto for the bushings. I did check with them for the shackles. They didn't have them.
You need to measure the inside diameter of the spring. I got my bushings at Rubber Bushings - Leaf Spring Bushings | SD Truck Springs. I didn't have my old shackles off yet when I ordered and took the parts reps advice and ordered the RB117. They are 1 1/2'' OD and were too small. My spring has a ID of 1 3/4'' and I had to reorder a set (4) of RB136 (1 3/4'' OD). They worked perfect but were way more expensive then the RB117s. I looked at what Advance sells and they don't give any info on the diameter of the Moog. The Rare parts brand is a little over 1 1/2''. At least you can return them at the store if they are wrong. I have to pay shipping (around $15) to get my $18 back for the parts that were wrong. If you check here https://blazerforum.com/forum/2nd-ge...hackles-67373/ you can see what I used to get them in the spring. Again, if you can't get what you need from Advance I have four of the 1 1/2'' OD and two of the 1 3/4'' sitting here. If you need them I'm sure we can work something out. |
heres the mother from the spring
wrong part...getting insane, the wrong part fits inside the old shell that i haven't yet butchered with the sazall.i think in my younger days, with a good torch,i would have blown the center out and not let burnning rubber bother me.

no real substitute for heat,pb and all the rest are for baby rust..lol
what really is eating me is my stupidly for buying this boat. |
I used a drill and a propane torch to get the rubber out. All drill on the drivers side because I've always been afraid of fire near the gas tank and fill pipe. I also only cut the bolt head off ( with a grinder) and used a monkey wrench on the bolt to wiggle the bushing out after drilling and/or burning.
Mine looked the same as yours when I got it out. Have you got the outer metal from the bushing out yet? I used a reciprocating saw to cut it part way, then had to pry it out with a screwdriver and a pry bar. You have to measure the ID after you get the metal part of bushing out. From what I've found it's either 1 1/2'' or 1 3/4'' ID unless you have something custom. |
back together,,,,left the outer core of the spring bushing in the spring
neversezed everything. thanks its been fun....not really.....didnt realize you did yours last year. thanks again! |
oh well maybe you didnt?????
