Default Reprogramming for gears

Bigger tires = difference in speedometer versus true speed.

Other than fixing that issue, what would i gain from having the computer reprogrammed?

I have been told that it would improve the low speed operation....ie, correcting the speed difference restores the shift points in the transmission to the appropriate times/power band? Does this sound right or should I buy my friend a bus ticket?
