i dont think you can use the stock steering. i dont even think you can use the same gear box. when i did my 93 the pitman arm faced backwards, if you flip it around to make it face forward it will be backwards, like turn left and it will go right backwards. when i did mine i just used a astrovan gear box with the stock pitman arm machined to take whatever tie rod end you want to use, then get some a passenger side flat top knuckle and crossover steering and youre all set. i know it sounds kinda confusing but its really quite simple. even simpler then the stock stuff thats down there.
i really dont have any good pictures of my steering set up but you can see it here. basically its just one bar that runs off the pitman arm that pushes the axle side to side

and encase your wondering those are fullisized k5 blazer axles, so they stick out pretty far, they came off the camo truck to the left

as for axle, that depends on your plans for the truck.
what are your fab skills, how will you drive your truck, do your tires need to covered, how big of tires, do you want to retain your bolt pattern or do you care what it will be...etc etc.
some common ones are a LP44 out of a wagoneer d30 out of a tj or such, or wider axles such as a p44 out of a late 70'd ford.
if your willing to swap transfer cases then that really opens up our options,
a jeep pitman arm will fit on the stock box but it is still better to use an astrovan box.
