The intermediate shaft likely doesn't need to be touched, just the rag joint. Still $1k to replace the entire intermediate shaft from the gear box to the firewall is ridiculous.

Here's a good article on the rag joint itself:
http://jimshea.corvettefaq.com/wp-co...hing24ja07.doc

Dorman 31002 is the rag joint and you'll need some 5/16" x 1.5" long bolts, washers, and nylon lock nuts. Once you get the intermediate steering shaft out, you will have to dismantle the joint which may require a grinder.

luckily the local parts store had one so i went and picked it up for 13$ and 2 hours later finished putting it in. getting the old one apart was a pain but nothing that a little persuasion from the grinder didn't take care of. steering is tuns better still a little play in the gear box but i think tightening the worm gear will take care of that.

one of the parts they listed i needed replaced was $700!! dealer special i think, that must have been the intermediate shaft. plus the rag joint equaled way too much money.

also tightening the adjustment on the gear box has been bad news for alot of people

what??? yeah thats all labor. the parts are only 150$ and to replace it all you have to do is take the air box out and take out the one bolt that holds the shaft onto the gear box shaft. put the new one in and ur done. 700$ is insane
