Default Steering Column Replacement

I have an 04 Blazer Xtreme. I am contemplating replacing the worn steering column with another. I've read other threads where all they had to do was swap the ignition to complete the swap. Is this to keep the functionality of the key for the door? My exterior door handles are shaved so i do not need this functionality. So If i get a steering column with a key am I good to go? With a previous swap in a 95 Z28 with the chip on the key I had to get a new key made for the column wiht the correct chip. The Blazer key does not appear to have a chip but not 100% sure. Can someone confirm?
Thanks for any help...

Will a manual steering column work in my automatic 04 Xtreme Blazer?

I know the key mechanism is different, not sure how much of the steering column it alters...

...

Not only that, you got the shifter on it.

now if yours has the center console shifter, then not sure. Good gamble.
