Default steering play

Hi.
I have a 2001 RHD 4WD Blazer and I have some play in the steering shaft.
If I grab the shaft between the rag joint and the bulk head I can wobble the shaft around. The play does not come from the rag joint, it seems to come from what looks like a telescopic joint, but I cannot find any mention of it on the dvd manual that I have.
Can anyone help?
Many thanks, Mick.

Hmmm... If it's anything like the 1999 to at least 2002 Silverado full-size trucks, that "telescopic joint" will have to be re-packed with grease. If you have a GM dealer around they may be able to order a kit, I know the one for the Silverado had a big tube syringe with grease in it. You had to pull the steering shaft out and squeeze the grease in...

Someone PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong here but that's my guess.

Could be that the pivot joint inside the column has worn out. This will be in the column where the tilt mechanism is. I am not sure of how maintenance friendly it is.

On many other vehicles, there is an intermediate shaft that GM has been known to have problems with, but I do not believe that these trucks use such a setup.

Thanks folks.
I was starting to think there had been a neuclear holocaust and I was the only person left, a bit like that film of a few years back.
There is a plastic cover on the shaft between the bulk head and the rag joint, I assume the sliding joint is under this, I will investigate further.
I will also look for a pivot joint.

many thanks, mick
