Default swapping stock for zr2 front and rear axels?

There is a guy on craigslist parting out his zr2 and I was considering seeing if he still has the front and rear axels. I currently have a 95 s10 blazer ls and I have a 2'' body lift and am running 31" tires. I have noticed a slight power loss and definetly a hit to my mpg. Will swapping out the axels and changing to the zr2's gearing help enough with the mpg and power loss to make it worth while? If so how much should I be looking to spend? I have searched about gearing but I haven't really found a definitive answer. Thanks guys.

It really depends on what gears you have in your blazer now.

yeah you could have 3.73 gears in your stock rear end. So then there would be no point in putting the time and money into swapping them. It also wont be real cheap unless the guy hasnt checked on prices at junk yards. I paid 450 for just the rear axle out of a ZR2. On top of that i had to replace all the bearings and seals.

How do I check what gearing I have?
If its gonna cost that much I would probably be better off making other upgrades to counter act my losses. hmm..

Check the RPO code in your glove box. It should say GU6 or something like that, sorry I can't remember all of the codes. (Not G80 though, that's a different story.)

Zr2 rear axle is 2inches wider. The front diff is the same you have now unless the zr2 is one of the rare iron diffs.

GU2 2:73 ratio

GU4 3:08 ratio

GU5 3:23 ratio

GU6 3:42 ratio

GT4 3:73 ratio

GT5 4:10 ratio

GQ1 Open Differential Rear Axle

G80 Positraction/Locking Rear Axle

I have 3:42 gears in mine. Worth swapping? I get about 17 MPG at 70. 18.5 at 60-65. What MPG do stock ZR2's get anyhow?
