Default Is there a tool for changing control arm bushings

Ive beat on this way too long. Is there a tool made to remove the bushings. I know I could take it to a shop, but if I could buy a tool for the same price, I would rather do that.

Would this tool work.

Default RE: Is there a tool for changing control arm bushings

The only way ive ever seen ctrl bushings rwmoved was by using an air chisel !! very carefully so ya dont wind up ruining the shaft that they slide on.. If you have a vise, put the shaftthat goes thru the arm in the vise clamp it down tight... Get the air chisel (flat bit) in between the arm and the bushing o the outside of the arm!! hit the key and lean into it with pressure while pushing outward on the bushing.. once that one is out do the same for the other side.. also the ctrl arm will still be able to move up and down in the vise while you do this so you can get at diff angles.. when reinstalling the bushings put just alight coating of white lube on the bushings and the shaft to help the new bushings slide in easier leave the shaft in the vise when your reinstalling the new bushings... Hope this all helps ya.....

Default RE: Is there a tool for changing control arm bushings

I use an hydraulic press to remove them..

If you can find the appropriate sized sockets, one that is just a bit smaller than the hole the bushing slides through and another that is large enough for the other side of the bushing to slid into, you can remove them with a threaded rod and some time. Just make sure that you get a good strong threaded rod. Basically the biggest you can fit through the bushing/sockets.

For the installation, you can do it much the same way, just instead of a socket on the bushing side, just use a real heavy washer.

The dealership would use the following special tools:[*]J 21474-01 Control Arm Bushing Service Set[*]J 21474-18 Nut[*]J 21474-19 Bolt[/ul]
