Thumping sound and feel
#1
Hey guys,
New to the site, love it found a lot of good info on here.I just got my 00 blazer last week and it's in great condition. Only thing I had to do was get a new battery and replace the pin and bushing on the driver side door.
But my question is, I hear a thumping sound on the driver side of the car once I get over 30mph, and it's rythmic. Plus I also feel the thumping and it feels like it is right under my foot. When I slow down bellow 30mph it will get weaker and stop. I tried to narrow it down more but it just feels as if it where right under my foot. If anyone has any ideas on what it might be that wo uld be great. I know it's a long shot, but I thought I'd give it a try. The truck is a stock LT trim 4 door with 4x4.
Thanks to all in advance.

Might be a bubble in the tire!! Take your truck into a tire place and have them check the balance on your tires, just in case to rule that out!!

Bubble in the tire, as in a broken belt.
If you run oyur hand over the tire and feel a high spot, more then likley you broke a belt. Based on your post, start with thet drivers front tire.

Otherwise a longshot is that your front u-joints on the front Driveshaft are going bad. It is possible but I would check the tires first, then check for slop/play in the front driveshaft u-joint areas. Good luck, and keep us posted.

Check The Hood hinges. I had play in the hood hinge pivot bolt that caused a banging sound and vibration. installed an oversized washer and tightened it down andthat solved the noise problem.

Had it at the shop on friday, I'll be needing lower balljoints, idler arm and two new front tires as they are f**** up. I got quoted 750 to do that all, That includes 2 new tires, doing the upper balljoints also. Does that seem like a good price? If it wheren't so cold out I'd do the joints an arm myself.

Unless the tires they are installing are k-rap, $750 parts and labor for all the balljoints, idler arm, and front tires - I'd say that's a very fair price. Doing balljoints is not fun.

I think I'm getting a better price on the stuff cause my neighbour used to work there and he took me up there when I brought the truck and they found out I was his neighbour
From what I read on the forum it isn't much fun doing it. I'm having touble with my 4x4 also so I'm gonne probably just get the truck there next week and hope for the best. Unless anyone lives near me and wants to do it for a few packs of beer

Had my friend look at it, 10 years being a mechanic. NO Ball joints needed, NO Idler Arm Needed, NO new tires needed, only a cross tire rotation. Things like that just **** me off. I'm glad I had him check it out befor I spent the money on it.
