Default Tie Rods, Idler Arms, Pittman Arms. Could it be Cheaper???

I just got an estimate from my dealer on getting the tie-rods and idler arms replaced on my Blazer. Their quote to replace outer tie rod ends, idler and pittman arms and do an alignment was $980 with labor if they use OEM parts and $690 if they use aftermarket parts. I wouldn't mind around $700. I was just wondering if it could be cheaper. I know it is more expensive because it is at a dealer, but how much cheaper could it be elsewhere??

doing it your self is the cheapest. Its around 400ish for parts at the dealer. i would go to napa and get their best quality. It will save you a bit. If you dont want to do it your self then i would get the parts and bring them to the dealer.

I agree. Buy the parts your self and you will save hundreds. Call around to the shops in your area for labour pricing, and talk to your friends family, find out if they have a good mechanic that they trust.

I agree that doing it myself would be the cheapest, but right now I am in Iraq and when I get home in mid to late September I have a bunch of stuff to do before I move to Alaska in December. Plus, I will be shipping my Blazer up there much sooner than that. I just don't foresee me being able to set aside a whole afternoon to do it myself. There is a guy that I know of that I am sure would do it fairly cheap if I brought him the parts.

What about the kits on Ebay? They are about $100-$125. I have never changed these before, any hints.

if you buy a kit on ebay, you might as well go drive your blazer into a tree.

because thats whats going to happen anyway when those cheap *** ball joints , tie rods, and or idler arm snap.

Totally agree. I am not one that is willing to skimp on parts like this. Especially when it comes to steering.
