Default Weird noise under hard acceleration

1999 2door 4wd
In 2WD when I mash the gas, it almost sounds like the front diff is engaged partway and the right front axle is trying to engage and spin. Not sure what the problem is. Sounds like a grinding noise. Could I have a vacuum leak that is not releasing the transfer case actuator fully? Recommendations?

Also, no 4Lo. Light just blinks. 2Hi and 4Hi work great.

I also checked, and no G80 on the codes, but when I mash the gas in 2WD on a dirt road, I get 2 nice stripes. Not sure if previous owner put a locker in. How can I really tell? Put it in a ditch to test 4wd once with left rear off the ground in 2wd and the wheel just spun but no spin on right wheel.

I have the g80 code on mine but the previous owner put an open diff in... Mine can also leave two marks on a dirt road but you can tell one spins more than the other. To see if mine was open diff I jacked up the back so both wheels were off the ground, then spun one tire forward. The other tire went backwards so i'm pretty sure that means open diff. I have also removed the diff cover and looked inside to be sure.

If you only spin a tire with your hand you can't tell if you have a G80 as it acts like an open diff until the two tires are spinning at a difference of >200 rpm. You would need to get a tire off the ground (on a trail somewhere) and hit the gas and see what happens.

you can lift and support the rear wheels off the ground, start the truck and put in "1". With your foot try to stop a wheel front spinning. You should be able to stop it with your foot then if you have a g80 it will kick in an force the wheel to spin and you can no longer stop it. Then you can go to the other side and repeat.

On a dirt road you can get 2 lines becasue of the simple fact there is alot of power and little traction so both just spin, my 96 did this (open diff) and my celica and girlfriends civic will (open diff).

You can also try to run 11s on the pavement, but that is very risky with an aging G80.

yeah, dont try that one. I killed mine trying that on wet pavement. Now it works when it wants to, which is never when i need it to

I used to do it all the time in the rain, just a strong one I guess.

I got the 4Lo to work. Had a corroded vacuum hose. Still have the issue of the front right axle pulling/grinding under hard acceleration in 2WD. Is there a cable adjustment needed (and if so, which direction) in order for it to fully disengage, or is this a vacuum switch or actuator issue?
