rear upper shock mounts
so i went to install my superlift shocks the shocks came off the bottom mount with ease the passenger side upper came apart to so i start workin on the driver side upper and one of the shock mount bolts is seized wont budge its in a place where you cant really heat it any ideas

Can you get anything in there to pound it out with (like an air hammer or punch). They can be extremely hard to get out when the bolts rust in rubber bushings.
|
i dont know man that upper mount is way up as far as a air hammer it would have to have a long tool in it to reach i dont have anything that long for my air hammer i may just have to bite the bullet and pay shop labor to get them changed
|
Where did you find a replacement mount?
|
get yourself a piece of carbon steel rod about 14 inches long (same size as chisel for air hammer)
have a double edge blade ground, or do it yourself it will fit up there and you cut it |
I called the dealer and they said it was part of a whole cross member GM part # 15017008is that correct?
|
How do you get the crossmember out and a new one in.. All the rivets are cut, I cant position this any way to get it removed..
|
Had to cut it. They cut and weld in the new one.
|
if its the same as my 96... i pulled the rubber skirts in the rear wheel well and took the air chisel to the Tinnerman u-nuts to break them free. then grabbed what was left of the nut with vise grips and pulled the bolt out.

Glad I did not have this problem on my first get (94) when I still had it, I had more of a problem getting the ones off of the axle. and they were original shocks, I think if i ran into this, knowing how tight that area was, I would just drive it into a lake.

LR upper shock mount
After reading the previous posts here, I am wondering if my 2000 s-10 Blazer would need the same or similar cross member replaced. The shock has basically ripped the mount apart and the shock is now wedged between the frame and gas tank. One bolt hole is definitely unusable whereas the other looks to be ok. For now, my main concern is getting to and from work. I would like to make this vehicle my "project". I already have some great ideas based off of what I have seen and read here in these forums. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
P.S. I just purchased this Blazer for $500 and it has the ZR2 package on it. I have a few more issues that I will try to post questions about in the proper forums. Thanks in advance! |
