Default Discount tire employees

I went to discount tire yesterday to see how much they would charge for new tires and a set of crager soft 8s. Well he started saying that i couldnt run those rims on my blazer that the tire itself would stick out 4 inchs outside of the wheel well, in my head im questioning everything he is telling me. He shows me a rim that he says will fit just fine and it is no where near what i want, and its 125 a rim. He gave me a good price on tires though, 615 for 30 in. bfg all terrain installed which isnt too bad. But now i dont know if i like discount tire anymore. Just thought i would share my experience. lol

Which soft 8's was it you were looking at? There are SEVERAL different models and if you were to pick one with very low offset or backspacing, they would stick out 4" past. If you can find some with 4.5 or 5" of backspacing, they could very likely fit. Wolpack, Rcars2, Millertime and quite a few others I may have missed have those "rockcrawler" "soft 8" style wheels. some have different brands with different sized holes or different amounts ouf holes but they're still very similar rims. Maybe you could find a specific model on the discount tire website and print it out to show him.

If the rims had the typical 4.25" or 3.75" back spacing, they would stick out 3.5" to 4.5" further than stock. Stock back spacing is 6".

I'm alittle slow I guess. LOL

4.5" is 1.5" less per wheel so they would stick out 3" further than stock.

if its only 1.5 then how would it stick out 3 in. this is all repeated stuff but when it comes to this i aint to knowledgable. with a stock wheel it doesnt come all the way to the edge of the wheel well it sits in a little bit, right? so my tire would stick out 2 in. or so?

Well, not quite. it is because that is a per wheel basis. The tires will stick out 3" wider overall (side to side). 1.5" per side is correct. I was incorrect by stating "sticking out", I meant the overall width increase.

My question is: Is there any harm to your suspension in running with a larger wheel base caused by a smaller backspacing? (Other than the fact they stick out farther than your fender)
