Under mount spare question--'98 LS
When using the under mount spare carrier, is there any reason to not hang the tire so the valve stem is on the bottom/by the bumper? It makes it easier to check tire pressure, but maybe there are good reasons to not do this. . . .
(When I needed the spare, the tire was mounted with the valve stem on top. The tire was flat, the carrier stuck. Don't want to go through that again!)
Thanks,
Jim

I can't think of any reason other than if you have an alloy rim and don't want to scratch it. Personally when I used my under-body spare tire I mounted it with the valve stem pointing down for the same reasons you indicated.

Hey I know it's an old thread but...
I've pulled old spares out from under blazers at junk yards, and have noticed some are too tight and cause permanent bumps where the tire sits against body x-members.
