Blazer 2004 Heater and AC went out and grinding noise

So my Air Conditioner went out and than my Heater. My concern is there is a piece that isn't turning but, when I start the blazer a horrible grinding noise starts. I am worried of taking it to a mechanic shop as I have heard bad stories of being taken advantage of, I am a single Mom and I don't have money to throw away. I don't know what kind of shop to look for I want a well known shop. Unfortunantly I have only went to Jiffy Lube or my boyfriend has worked on it. He changed my belts but, that wasn't the problem. Can someone help me?
