Talk about a budget build .
Like everyone else on this forum
I just wanted a v8 S truck , it started with me aquiring a 96 2.2 5 speed truck . No it wasn't my first but it was lowered and the look and price struck me as a good deal .
Well a few months into ownership I was tired of the bench seat so it was swapped out . While doing that I finally crawl underneath and saw how bad the rust was.
2 days later the fuel pump goes so while searching for a used pump I find a 4.3 reg cab shortbed.
I had to have it , the truck wasn't rusted and had 169k on it with an engine the had a rod knock .
Well the other side to that story is the guy wanted 1500 for it so I had to let it go.
At the time my buddy who's my right hand man wrecked his car and only had 300 buck and some random things to trade so to help him out I sold him the red truck .
I give my wife the cash for bills like anyone else would and I held onto the random stuff my buddy traded me .
Sometime passes and I'm scrolling on Facebook and I see the truck for sale for $500/trade or the guy is scrapping it.
I try messaging,commenting and no response .
I was the only person to comment so I find the truck at a two it shop and work out trading some random junk my buddy left me with and haul the truck home .
Well it's easier to ask for forgiveness then to beg for permission ,the look on my wife's face was priceless.
So I kept the the lowering kit from the red truck and slapped it on the sonoma and it looked good .
So here's how the parts so far worked out.
I installed my neighbors 5.0 in his mustang in exchange for him to pay for my engine I found a 93 tbi 5.7 that had just been gone through and has an rv cam and mild head work .
I know this because I put it together for a guy a year ago .
He told me I could have it for $150 cuz he just wrecked the truck.
So boom I've got an engine
I scored adapter plates for $30 locally
And hedman shorty swap headers for $80
I buy the 2.8 motor mounts and the fun began.
At this time the the 4.3 is out the 5.7 is in
And I'm doing great on the budget lol
