700r4 TCI streetfighter governor issue
I bought a built 83 k5. (see sig) Truck had overheating issues so I couldn't really road test and vett out the truck. I fixed the overheating issue. Once streetable, I noticed the trans stopped shifting into second until 35 mph.
Figured the governor. Pulled the cap and checked the gov. The rod was not moving. I cleaned it and reinstalled. Shifted great for about 2 hours city driving. Then same issue. I pulled it again, not moving. Figured I would flush trans before installing it. Flushed with some cheap atf. (left out the gov) Then I refilled with Maxxshift from TCI and reinstalled gov. Drove about same 2 hours and the problem came back. Not sure what to do now.TCI wants the trans back for a refresh. 1000 buck plus freight up and back. a local trans shop told me I probably had the TV cable adjusted wrong and smoked the trans. Stuck to his opinion even after I told him these were constant pressure valve transmissions and only use the TV cable for small adjustments in shiftpoints. I know the trans shifts good after I clean the gov. Even goes into overdrive. He wanted to flush it again. For his cost I passed. TCI did state that I could try changing the governor for a new one. Claiming that if the gov valve had scarring any micro grit or plate dust would bind it up. Not wanting to pull it. On the verge of throwing an SM465 in it and calling it a day. I stopped smoking transmissions when I stopped getting automatics. Looking for some advice or maybe someone ran into this issue before and can lend some advice to a fellow shady tree mech.
