Default 1997 blazer...no crank!

anyways, im hoping someone can help me here. i was driving when all of a sudden my truck just dies. so i pull off to the side and try to restart it. no luck. not even cranking. so i pull the dash and try to check the wires(checked the #9 fuse first cause i didnt hear the fuel pump and it was ok). so here i am searching and i find what appears to be a switch. little silver thing with 2 rod at the ends and a 2 wire harness. anyways jump the positive side and fuel pump kicks on. try starting and starts. only problem is that when i put it into drive it cuts out again. no my question is, what the heck is that switch and what could be my problem here...any help is greatly appreciated

A picture is worth 1000 words. Your description does not really jump out at me as anything... After market device perhaps? What markings does this "switch" have on it?

97 Blazers have ignition switch problems, but under the dash, the only component of the ignition switch is the wiring harness. The rest is all in the steering column.

So what was the original problem?

Your idle problem and off idle stumble/bog is likely due to a rather large vacuum leak.

but then heres the problem...first start up will be fine, until it warms up a bit. thats when all hell breaks loose. idles abnormally high(tach aint working so idk exact rpms). but before the high idle and bogging it really doesnt sound as if there is a vacuum leak

and to add to that, if i shut it off while its idling high and bogging. start up is really hard unless gas pedal is depressed all the way, and even at that it takes a while
