How do I test the crankshaft position sensor?
95 LT 4X4, 4.3L W engine, OBDII
Hi All. I have been having trouble fixing a P1345 code (crankshaft position/ camshaft position coordination). I've been following the guide here - https://blazerforum.com/forum/diagnostic-trouble-codes-dtcs-49/p1345-explained-35138/ .
It says to monitor the engine speed and if it fluctuates to replace the crankshaft position sensor. I did this but it didn't fix the problem. The engine speed still fluctuates. Following the guide puts me right back at the beginning again and tells me to replace the sensor.
I used an old sensor from another wreck. It is possible this sensor is bad too. But before buying a new sensor I would like to test to see if in fact the sensors are bad or if I need to look somewhere else for the problem.
Following the Haynes repair manual, I have power to the sensor. It then says to check resistance of the sensor. It should be between 800 and 1200 Ohms. I tested the old sensor I took out and it show infinite resistance across the two pins. I removed the other sensor from the engine and checked it. That one also shows infinite resistance.
My question is am I checking this properly? The Haynes guide has a crappy picture but it looks like they are testing the wire harness. I am so confused.

I would check continuity on all of the wiring for the CKP sensor. Check to make sure that you are getting the proper voltage on the feed from the fuse box. Also check to make sure that when the PCM is on (key-on, engine-off), that you have a good ground on the sensor ground lead.
