Do you remember which versions they gave you first and what they gave you the second time? I don't know how hugely different your 98 is vs my 90 in regards to what cats can be used, but from what I found out and posted here https://blazerforum.com/forum/headers-intake-exhaust-10/hi-flo-cat-worth-48153/ is that the 94000 series is for the 4.3's while the 91000 series is for the 2.8's. I'm guessing they gave you the smaller 91000 series since you said they gave you the wrong one and it failed so quickly. Can you confirm this?

I dont know what the bad one was. Is the series stamped on the cat itself anywhere? I'll crawl under there and hope its on the side facing down if it is. Otherwise, I don't have any of the paperwork anymore.

I can tell you they were roughly the same size but I do believe the one that didnt fail had a slightly larger inlet/outlet.

Both mine are gen 1 small blocks, same as yours plus two cylinders, only difference will be sound, it'll perform like it does on mine, which is very well.

Well on the cat it says 93304, which turns up direct fit ones when googling, although it's a universal. I'm guessing its the same cat as on the direct fit ones, just without the direct fittage.
