Default 1992 s10 blazer fuel problems

i own a 1992 s10 blazer. this is the problem:

on cold mornings/evenings or when the blazer has sit for several hours the blazer is very hard to start. i can turn the engine over for several minutes while pumping the pedal but it will not start.

after i leave home or work and the blazer has warmed up for awhile, i can shut it down and it will start up normally.

before this happened i could hear the fuel pump running and now i can't hear it that good.

i have not checked the pressure. but when it gets started it will run fine. i did give it a good tune up. i have not checked for any codes.

i plan to change the fuel filter this weekend to see if that helps.

also refresh my memory.... how do i relieve the fuel pressure before i remove the filter? what fuse must i pull?

thanks for any and all advice.

I just changed my fuel filter 3 days ago and I didn't experience any pressure at all. Somebody let me know if that is a bad sign, though. Once I changed it it started right up...no problems at all and none since. I didn't have any fuel problems to begin with, just doing a tune up, etc. Anyways long story short...I didn't have any pressure on mine when I changed it so I wouldn't worry about a fuse or anything, but that's me.

Pumping the throttle on a fuel injected engine does not really help like it would on a carb motor.

Is this a TBI or CPI motor? If TBI, you may have a leaking throttle body base gasket. For either, it is possible that you have a fuel pressure leak that is causing the system to leak down, requiring the fuel pump to pressurize the system first.

If it is not fuel related it could be a faulty Temp Sensor for the computer which would lead to improper fuel mixture when the engine is cold. The O2 sensor could also be part of the problem if the engine is stuck in closed loop operation even when cold. This would allow the EGR to function with a cold engine and would cause rough idle. The temp. sensor for the computer is located by the water inlet. The temp sensor for the gage is on the right head by the dipstick tube.
