Default 87 2.8 fast idle? New to forum

Hi, I'm new to the forum and to the Blazer, 2.8L manual 4x4, about 100,000 miles. It was my dads and I inherited it after he passed away. I've been searching this forum for about two hours and haven't had any luck.

First, I started the blazer today and the idle went up high, probably 1500 to 1800 rpm and is stuck there. Any pointers in the right direction would help. It was running fine before today.

Also the other day it wouldn't start, nothing happened when I turned the key, I put in a new battery and still no luck. Pushed it and popped the clutch and was on the road. When I got home the starter was working again. This problem happened twice. I'm thinking soleniod and a starter are in my future, or is there something else I should be looking at.

BTW my knowledge is with old aircooled vw's so TBI and a radiator are new to me!

sometimes you can try reving it up. my 85 does the same thing. kinda nice for letting it warm up. mine idles like 1300 untill i floor the gas then it goes back down to normal. also try lubing all the stuff on the sides of the carb. theres a little piece that spins that makes the idle change speeds. sometimes that can get stuck

check your timing thats a definite on the idle. if its correct then start checkin all air idle fuel components. the tbi isnt ajustable so your screwed just like me... lol... as far as the not wanting to turn on we need a bit more info on what it does. does it click or does it turn over or what?

When you turn the key it does nothing, no clicking and not turning. Sometimes when it is working it seams a little slow like the battery is dying, but a new one was put in and it does the same thing.
