Default AC: Am I wrong that something isn't right?

I had AC for a bit after I got this 94 Blazer 4x4 and then it just blows warm.
The PO converted it to 134a so I picked up a couple of bottles and that is where I started scratching my head. I checked online and I thought the low side was pointed away from the engine. When I popped the hood there is a larger red port facing away from the engine and a deep purple facing towards the fan. The adapter only fits on the purple one.

Am I wrong or could the Accumulator be reversed?
It is facing 180 degrees different then this pic.

The electrical connection is where the pic says the low side is suppose to be.
I'm confuzzeled.

When I put the applicator on the low side the gauge pegged as far right as possible as if it is severely over charged. I guess I have to take it in to see what the issue might be.
