EGR valve?
Hey folks, I changed plugs cap and rotor. And fuel filter. About 3 blocks from home she started coughing and sputtering barely made home to garage. Coded it and get 3-2 egr valve. Well I priced 1 and its $95 bucks. I just need to know how to make sure thats what it is before I spend the money. It runs rough and is spittin water and carbon out the tailpipe, and smells awfull, very gassy smellin. And the gas mileage is down quite a bit. Its a vortec 6 94 4x4. Thanks.

I would start by taking the EGR valve off/out. Start the Blazer and rev it a few times, with the EGR valve off to clean out the EGR passages of possible carbon pieces. Look at the EGR valve. Work the valve in and out making sure of no binding. Blow it out-soak it with carb cleaner if needed. Re-install, if all is well. Use a 'screened' EGR valve gasket upon re-install if you can get one. Don't replace unless you absolutely need to. Jerry

yeah just clean her out usually works. You can bench test it with a multimeter when its off the truck to verify its working properly. You wanna stick you Ohm meter probes on the 1st and 4th pins on the plug part I think... Should read around 1 when just sitting there, and then you push the plunger back in manually about 75% of the way and the numbers go up to about 4 or 5, that means its working.

Took the air intake plenum off to get to the EGR valve. Took off the EGR valve, and it was quite a mess. Very carboned up. The passage at the top of the plenum was damn near plugged up as well ( if the pic loaded you'll see ) Scraped the deposits off and blew them out with compressor. Worked the diaphragm with a small allen wrench and tapped and shook it. Blew it out as well. Put it all back together and VAROOOOM running better than ever. $95.00 saved thanks to you all!!!!

Glad to be of help to you guys. This is how I got started around here too. I had gotten a used blazer and it was running like crap too, and then I came around here and trolled for a while. The info I found saved me a bunch of money, and now I keep coming back to help give back to the community.
