I second the tourque convertor bolts or cracked flexplate. My wife has a 94 explorer that does the noise and shaking thing. Its been parked since christmas cause I dont feel like repairing it yet. Her truck has a broken flexplate in it from her throwing it into reverse without completely stopping (I make sure she doesnt do that on MY blazer). I would take a look at that possibility. When you rev that engine it makes a very loud whirring/screeching noise and the vibrations are bad at idle and unbeleiveable at more than 1000rpms. Im not looking forward to this job as I have to move the exhaust pipes to get that tranny out and the tranny is a massive heavy bugger.
ohsofly,
Nice to hear from you again. Yes this is definately something broke and it ain't gonna fix itself. Loose TC bolts would be a blessing. If they are you need to remove a few of them as if they have been running that way a while it'll make the holes oblong. I think there are a second set ofholes that line up (at least in my old 82 Chevy 1/2 ton there were. Of course if the flexplate's cracked it's just a matter of time before it may shatter. Not pretty!
