i have a 1985 s10 blazer .. i drained the oil and replaced the plug, and replaced the oil filter .. however, i am unable to remove the oil fill cap. it does not pull out nor unscrew .. it does hand turn in either direction .. it appears to be a Stant style push/pull cap with the words "oil fill" on it .. any suggestions as to how i can remove this cap to add oil to my truck ?

 

I assume you have the 4.3L TBI or Vortec should be the same with both.

The cap should be located on the passenger side on top of the valve cover.
and should have neck that is inserted into the valve cover with a push on cap.
Perhaps the cap has dry rotted it self to the neck, I would try using pliers to "rip" the cap off. Or you may try removing the neck from the valve cover.

If it comes to the point where you can not remove the cap by excessive force, you may have to break it off using a hammer and chisel or use a hacksaw to cut the neck under the cap and go to your parts store and find a plug to fit.

I have a 4.3 with the oil fill cap located on the passenger side valve cover, the oil filler cap is attached to a neck that is approximately 5 inches in length, the oil cap is made from rubber and was factory, I bought the truck used, and tried to fill the oil after draining, i had some issues with removing the cap, I used pliers to rip the cap off it brittle and fell apart.

any more issues just ask, I will try to help the best i can.

 

He said 85, 4.3 didn't come out till 88 and vortec even later. TBI didn't come out till 1986 on s-series.

On the 2.8 its just a rubber push in cap. Most of them get hard over time and its a PITA to pull them out. About the best thing to do is take a screw driver and pop it out. Most any parts store has a oil cap that will fit in its place for under $10 that makes life easier. I got one for my old valve covers that had a bowtie on it but there are different styles.

Just don't ask the parts guy for a "710 cap"...

 

I have an 81 blazer and I cant seem to find the cap in order to put in some new oil, I even had some other guys look and no one can find it anyone know where it is?

 

If it's a 2.8 It is a rubber cap that pulls out if you can't get it to pull out you can find a way to force it out and replace it they are only a few dollars.

 

84BlazerS10 hit it right. The rubber gets hard and makes the cap tough to get out. How big of a pair of Channelocks do you have? I've replaced two on my '84 2.8L.

 

So now I know what to look for but I still do not know where it is, people have told me valve covers but they are both plain valve covers. Its a rebuilt engine and tranny so I do not know much about it I just need to get it ready for smog and registered so I can sell.

 

If you look in the picture it is the black metal tube between the air filter and the master cylinder.
