1989 power steering pump pulley chipped help
what's up guys. is it easy to remove and reinstall a new power steering pulley? do I need to remove the fan? or can I leave it on? Something caused a chip of metal to fall off on of the grooves in the pulley causing the belt to shred, ruined my night? I am renting the puller and installer tools tomorrow. please let me know if this task can be done in 1 hour.

Pretty sure you have to remove the fan. Get a puller to get the old pulley and make sure it comes with the attachment to reinstall the new one.

i did mine about a year ago. i dont think you HAVE to remove the fan but it might help. i think i had to remove the fan shroud though. this is one of those things where it can be a royal pain in the butt or it might come right off. i actually broke my puller when i was trying to get mine off lol. but in theory yeah you just pull it off and put it on.
and make sure you when you reinstall it that it is all the way on other wise your belt will sequel like crazy
edit... i was thinking of a fullsize truck, should still be the same though

Use a combination puller/installer. You can borrow one at no cost from AutoZone's loan a tool program. You pay for the tool but they return 100% when you bring the tool back. Make sure that the pulley is installed so it is co-planer with all of the other pulleys. You should be able to tell by the shaft discoloration where the old pulley was positioned at. You should not have to remove the Fan but I might help to remove the upper fan shroud. Do not try and pry the pulley of as it will not work and you will warp the pulley. Use the puller/installer.
