1994 4x4 issues
First off, this site has been a big help with some questions. I tried today to check the 4x4 actuator. And I got to it no problem. Depressed the rubber and could hear some vaccum leak. Spliced a small section of hose before the T ( maybe not the best thing ) actuator stay depressed. Put it all back together battery tray and all. Started her up and shifted to 4 hi. Get the small indicator light, but the front drive line does'nt light up or does the 4 wheel drive engage. One thing I noticed is the cable end at the actuator was hard to move, several times and then it moved about 3/4 of an inch. Most of what I've read today was for push button, and I have a shift lever. Any thoughts or suggestions???? Thanks in advance.

First off check out the link in my signature, it explains the whole thing.
2nd I got the shift lever also, and the light for the front 2 wheels down there didn't always come on but the 4x4 still worked. I would suggest you troubleshoot first by engaging the front axle with vice grips (so the cable doesn't pull back) then check to see if the light is on, and also testing the 4x4. If it does work, then you need to test your vacuum pressure coming off the hose on the actuator, it may not be getting enough vacuum to activate to switch the front axle.

Your signature link is the one I used to get to the actuator, WOW!!!!! The question I have for that is, do I pull the cable with the lever in the 2wd position? And does the shift lever control the cable in question. I will give all this a shot tomorrow PM after work. 2wd in this snow and ice is not a good drive! lol...Thanks alot

Any position, like the write up says, the cable controls the front axle engagement only.
And does the shift lever control the cable in question.
The shift lever controls the transfer case. On the transfer case there is a little switch that engages and sends the vacuum to the actuator in front that you were playing with. That actuator pulls the cable when given vacuum locking a sleeve inside the front axle which therefore gives you 4x4.
This one is on the transfer case and supplies vacuum to the front:

This one is on the front axle and tells the light inside to turn on when it notices the front being engaged:

Also, all this information is in that write up in my link.! Please read it throughly before asking another question thats answered in there.

success
I have my 4x4 back up and workin. Followed all the directions and plugged 2 vaccum leaks. Took off the actuator and kicked out the cable. Pulled the cable until I heard the click. Set the battery tray back in with one bolt into the radiator thread area. put the battery back in and started it up. Had the 4 wheel light and and the front diff light came on. Put the cable back into the bracket put the spring back on. reversed the whole tear down process. Started it up and NO 4 wheel. Tore it all apart again...IT WAS THE BLINKIN SPRING THE WHOLE TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Took it all apart again and compressed the spring some more. It was'nt catching in the notch. More tension after I bent it. Put everything back together again, ( Had another brew ) And BADA-BING!!! 4x4 is working once again. Thanks to the board and all the help I got. NW OHIO weather won't keep me out of it anymore!!!!!!!!!!!
