Default 3.4L multiport Injection on a 2.8L EFI?

Can it be done? I read somewhere that someone had done it, wasn't on this forum though.

Does anyone know if it works?

The 2.8L in the s-series truck was only ever TBI. As such, the stock 2.8L ECU would not be able to properly control a true SMFI setup.

What Kyle said.
Anything can be done given the right combination of parts.

Probably be better if you stated the problem and/or desired result.

I'm just looking for more power and better gas mileage.

I've read that the 4.3 TBI will bolt up and the ECU will handle it fine, has anyone done this and noticed any noticeable gains?

I've done several swaps and grafts on FI systems. I can tell you that if you dont do it mainly for fun, {my reason}, it's not worth it.
Especially if you dont have free parts to start with.

Also there's no regular on here does radical engine modding .. notice it's all 'lift & looks'? Cold Air Intake is as techy as it gets.

If you have the 2.8,the 4.3 will not bolt up. The bolt pattern for the bell-housing is different. You'd have to swap transmissions too.

Anything can be done but that swap would be a lot of customization and adapting. I do have a Venture with the engine you mention on putting in a Blazer and I don't know if I would trust that engine in a truck as heavy as is the Blazer.

I think he is referring to a 60 degree 3.4L not a 90 degree 4.3L, not a typo like you guys think.

Afterall, I think a 3.1 and 3.4 are on the same block cast as the 2.8 - the 60 degree V6's

3.4 was made in both DOHC and pushrod styles. The DOHC is actually a nasty little tall engine that pumped out close to 300HP!

And he only really wants to put the intake and injection onto the trucks current 2.8L

And I have read this one somewhere too in the past, but I think it was in a Z24 cavalier or beretta V6 or something.... Im not sure if it was a second gen to second gen swap though... It looks like the OP wants to put a second gen injection on a first gen engine, and that could be a major issue.

I think www.60degreev6.com is the place you wanna get your info from. Its not really the kind of thing any of the guys around here have done. We would however love to hear about it when you do though!

If your 2.8 already has tbi the 4.3 tbi can easily be adapted, you will have to have the throttle bores on the intake manifold enlarged for the 4.3 tbi and use the injectors off the 2.8 tbi to keep it from running rich,I found the tbi of a 4.3 astro / safari fits without having to change the throttle bracket. Also,to really get the benefit from the larger tbi you need a freeflow exhaust and a better cam, something in the 260 range, these three mods will make a noticeable difference. The freeflow exhaust will give back the slight loss of mpg that the cam and bigger tbi normally cause.

Lots of misinfo on 60 degrees.

Yes its been done but the gain isn't what you will expect. The iron heads are a bottle neck not the fuel system.

The s series ecm will run multiport just fine. You set it up to run batch fire. Most people that do the swap are not using the factory ecm anyways.

The 4.3 tbi works. On a 2.8 you use the 2.8 injectors. On a 3.4 you run the 4.3 injectors. As said astro vans had the best tb for the swap. Your intake has to be bored out or the butterflies won't open up.

I'm somewhat regular and do heavy engine modding. I just post all my info over on s10planet. I'm the 60 degree section mod over there. Mostly this site is bolt ons for looks it seems.

60degree engines use a narrow bolt pattern, 90 degrees engines use a wider one. Don't see what that had to do with anything in here.

I have a 3.4 in my blazer, heavily modded but for the most part a stock based camaro engine running my fuel injection.

The 2.8 and rwd 3.1 share the same block, the 3.4 while has the same outside measurements has a bigger bore cast into it. You can turn a 2.8 into a 3.1 but you can not turn a 2.8 or 3.1 into a 3.4.

The DOHC 60 degree was nasty alright, wouldn't wish one of those POS on anybody. Even gm got away from them.

All rwd 60 degrees are gen 1s. They all use iron heads and the intakes swap out. S-series all used tbi but the f-bodies with 2.8s, 3.1, and 3.4s all used multiport.
The later gens used aluminum heads. These will fit on the block but require the complete heads and intake to be swapped. The heads flow way better and is a common swap for the fwd cars to get more power. Not so common in trucks as the tbi works just fine and is simple.

60degreev6 is a good site, I'm under the same name over there. Speak for yourself, I've done a lil work on these engines over the years lol.

Did I miss anything?
