Ok so when i try to crank it over(with new battery) it turns over very labored and then with a pop spits fuel up out of the tb. ill check all the plug wires but i think they are good because with the old distributor i could almost get it to start, I.E. it would fire 4 or 5 times but not catch on.

P.S. does anyone know about the two timing marks? I can't find any ware that talks about there being two of them.. could this be the prob? Like i said before I am going off the one that comes first. the second is about 90 degrees behind

and u just tried putting some gas strait into the tb and nothing

It fires before TDC. You prob have it 180 out. Dont remove the valve cover anymore to get it on compression stroke. Pull out the #1 plug(drivers side front) and cover the hole with your finger (cover the hole , dont stick it in there) and have a friend bump the starter till it blows (not sucks) your finger off the hole. When it does , back the motor up a bump with a rachet and socket at the crank pulley. When I say a bump I mean just enough to make the piston back up . Then drop your dizzy in there pointed to number one and make sure to align your pump drive shaft. That will get you close enough to run.

Are you sure? Because by turning the dizzy i can get it from 12 degrees before all the way down to 0.. also any idea on why it would spit fuel out of the throttle body?

It will cough through the intake if it is 180 out. I think you are on the wrong stroke. But its hard to diagnose somthing through the internet.

ok well its kinda hard to get my finger in there because they have this protective shroud around the plug.. can i just bring it to the tdc mark, pull my dizzy, then rotate it 180 and drop it back in?

Rotate the engine not the dizzy

Yeah I guess but then you still wont be sure about what stroke you are on. Ive had 4.3s in s10s and havent had that much problem gettin my finger over the plug hole. Like I said , Im trin to help you over the internet , this may not be your problem, but it sure sounds like it. Thats the only way I know to make sure you are firing number one on Compression stroke.

If it is not too difficult to get your valve cover off and on, I would remove the valve cover. I would then identify the number one intake and exhaust valves, Then rotate the engine watch for the exhaust valve to open and close then rotate the engine intake and exhaust valves will be closed, and slowly rotate the engine (Compression Stroke) untill the timing marks on the damper line up with the TDC on the scale. Install the distribitor so the rotor is pointing at number one plug location on the cap. Install the plug wires double check that all plug wires are installed in the correct firing order. This should be close enough to allow the vehical to start. Then time the vehical normally.

You would never make it in a commisson shop. Why take the valve cover off and waste the gasket when you can take 2 min and pull the plug get it on TDC and be done. Whatever cranks your tractor I guess.
