89 s-10 stalling
Hello, New here. I have a 89 s-10 4.3 2wd. My problem is......The vehicle starts ok but after running for about 45 min it begins to sputter then stall. It will start back up fine but after afew mor minutes stalls again.
Check trouble code and came up with 42 and 43. I addressed the problem, changed the esc, control module new plugs dist.cap, rotor, new map sensor , injectors, timing chain, coil, catalytic converter, and Pcv valve. I don't get the codes anymore it just dispays the 12 code, but I am still having the same problems.
CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP!!!!!!! I am going crazy here and spending too much money.

RE: 89 s-10 stalling
Could be a faulty EGR or EGR control, Car could be going into closed circuit at low RPM. Engine temp, O2 Sensor and RPM all play a role wheather or not the engine is in open or closed circuit operation. in open circuit the EGR does not function, once the car is warmed up and idlle is above a certain RPM the O2 sensor controls the EGR valve. If the EGR is opening premature or is stuck open you could get the symptoms you are having. Because when the engine is cold the ECM controls the injectors and the fuel is richer. Once the fuel is no longer on the rich side the exhaust into the intake could cause your engine to stall.
Could also be the IAC = Idle Air Control valve on the TBI.

hi i have same veh, 89 s10 4.3 2wd, er i didn't see a fuel filter on the fixit list lol.i'm told that is an item to changeoftenbecause gasoline is dirty and can cause such symptoms you describe.
in fact, i just had to have the fuel pump in my s10replaced (1st time)and dude says, "prob failed because the fuel filter is dirty". hmmm.rofl. so i change the fuel filterand whamo, itruns much better. just a thought. gl.

Thanks, I forgot to put filter on the list but I did change that also.
I changed the egr solenoid, It ran great last night , but this morning started it, after about 20 minutes stalled again with a code 42. I understand this has something to do with the timing. Will resetting the timing fix this problem or do I need a new distributor?

Still could be the actual EGR valve, Itcould be the coil failing intermittently,or like what happened to me was my distributer was failing intermittently. I purchased a remanufactured distributer from NAPPA and car runs great. This was after i changed the coil twice. GM sells distributer parts but not a complete assy.
