91 Blazer 4.3 problems...

Default 91 Blazer 4.3 problems...

Here it is... i recently replaced my fuel pump, fuel filter, plugs and wires and put a cap and rotor on it. It ran like new for about a month and now all of a sudden in the last week it has started to really struggle to drive even on flat land. It sounds wierd. When you push on the gas peddle it sounds like it's not getting or getting to much gas. Spits and sputters BIG time. I had to replace the fuel filter 2 days ago cause it was extremely dirty on the inside (clear filter). I go 45 miles per day to Rapid City and it usually takes an 8th tank now it's taking a 1/4 tank just for that drive. What do i do? I am about readdy to blow this thing up. It's getting old working on it. Hopefully someone here can give me a heads up. Also I put it on the diagnostic reader and it says nothings wrong...LOL!!! What a crock.

1. Check fuel pressure, TBI should be 11 psi
2. Are your fuel injectors working correctly?
3. Is the Throttle Position Sensor working correctly

Fuel injectors are working properly. What is a throttle positioning sensor and where is it located? Also I can not seem to find my fuel pressure regulator. Where is that located??? I know about checking the fuel pressure but don't have a gauge to do it. Took the O2 sensor out and it runs the same so my thinking it was a clogged catalytic converter is off. Also, this problem happens when the vehicle gets to operating temp. Doesn't do it right when you start driving it. Maybe that says something.

For TBI the pressure regulator is on top of the TBI.
EGR, if it is leaking by would cause all kind of problems.
Throttlle posiiton sensor is on the side of the throttle body and is connected the the linkage.

Temp. Sensor at water inlet controls open and closed loop operation if you have a faulty temp sensor you could be operating in closed loop when the engine is not operating temp.

OK now it won't even start. Gets gas but just won't kick over. Now what??

What do I have to do trade this chevy off for a Ford??

1. Check for spark. Coil could be bad, Distributer pick up could be faulty.
2. Verify the firing order to ensure that the plug wires did not get crossed.
3. Try starting while rotating the dist. a little in each direction. maybe the hold down clamp was not secure and the distributer rotated out of time.
2. Timing could have jumped. Bring the number one piston to TDC, Mark the location of the #1 plug wire on the dist. cap. Lift cap and verify rotor is pointing at the number one plug or very close to it. If not loosen hold down bolt and rotate distributer so it is pointing at # Plug and try to start. If engine starts then time the car to spec.

Thhe clamp is tight checked that. Other than that, who knows. Where's the distributor pick up located at?? Hate working on these vehicles. I know alot about older dodges (small block) but it's a whole new thing working on this thing!! New problem every day with this chevy!!!

Part of the distributer assy, beneath the rotor, on the mounting plate. You can try pouring a little raw gas down the throat while trying to start just to verify it is not fuel related.

I have over 410,000 miles on my jimmy, I did replace the engine and transmission but these car are very reiliable. Over the life of the car I have done two fuel pumps, one coil, one distributer, IAC, Map Sensor. Fuel Injectors once, Computer once. I am the original owner and this is my DD. This is a 20 year old car and I would not hesitate to go any where in it. The TBI is much better than a regular carburator. I remember faulty floats, sticking inlet valves, faulty accelerator pumps, vapor lock. I am not sure how long you have this car but if you get the bugs worked out it should be very reliable hence forth.
