Default '92 Chevy S-10 Blazer, v6 4.3L 4x4. Leaks below the water pump.

I can't seem to find the exact spot where it's coming from but it is leaking fast. My engine starts fine but I am not driving it because it over-heated on me not too long ago. I'm thinking it might be a cracked block. Also, the first thing I tried was replacing my heater core. I had anti-freeze in the passenger floor boards. Next, I replaced my water pump and thermostat because I could tell it was leaking from my water pump. Now I can tell it is leaking from below my water pump and I don't know what it is. Please respond if you know what it may be or what I could do about it. Also, I am working on getting someone out to run a pressure test through my coolant system. My Blazer is also an automatic. If it is a cracked head how can I be foresure and what will it cost me to fix it. Can I do it myself? or do I need to lift the engine?

Thank you,
Charles Voshall

Charles, Sounds like you've done alot of work already. First place to check is the oil. If its a head gasket or other leaking gasket, then the oil should look like a chocolate milk shake. Next, check the plugs. They will tell you how the engines been running. It 2 plugs next to each other are wet, then its probably a head gasket. If they are normal, then its probably the intake gasket. Then do a compression test that will confirm everything you need to know. Repairs should be done ASAP, no real way to forstall it.

get pressure on it that will tell a story. If the waterpump was properly installed and recently as well as a quality water pump then.....a freeze plug on the front of the engine behind either right or left component mounting tower(the 'brackets/towers that accommodate the a/c compressor-alternator-power steering pump)..good luck-Jerry

Thanks for the tips fellows. I still have not been able to pressurize the coolant system but I will be doing so within the next few days. Also, my oil looks fine; I can tell there is no water getting in it. But, I'm leading towards a popped freeze plug or a bad hose because by just pouring water in to flush the cooling system it leaks profusely with/out the engine on. Please let me know if any other thoughts.

Thanks,
Charles Voshall

Get down on your back and take the skid plate off and have a look from the bottom. Try putting some red color into the water to make it easier to see when it comes out. If it pours out maybe you just have a cut hose that comes off the bottom of the water pump.

I have had a leak out of every where possible so far on the same engine. I just recently changed out my intake manifold gaskets, head gaskets, and freeze plugs. You do not need to lift the engine. The freeze plugs are difficult to see if they are leaking in the front of the block. If it's not a hose the next place I would look would be your freeze plugs. I have some pictures in my profile with my engine apart if you need references
