Default 94 gmc jimmy intermittent sputtering

Hey guys great site! I'm glad I found it!
I'm having an issue with my jimmy sputtering randomly and it doesn't seem to have any rhyme or reason to it. I thought sure thing its the spider so I changed it and the nut kit but it made no difference at all, the fuel pump is a gm about 4 years old. Now I'm thinking it's a spark issue, when it's at its worst I get a burning smell which I'm thinking is unused gas getting to the cat.
Btw its a 94 gmc jimmy s15 W vin 4x4 vortec 95000 miles.
Thanks in advance for any help!

More info: parts changed recently
Spider and nut kit
fuel filter
Coil
plug wires
the problem began in August and is steadily getting worse. Shooting from the hip I have changed these parts trying to isolate the problem. The spider change gave no change and the coil and wires made the truck run much smoother but the problem is still there.
This weekend I will check :
fuel pressure with autozone Guage
vacuum maybe even drop the gas tank to see if there is a bunch of crud clogging up the pump inlet

Definitely check the EGR for carbon blockage. Clean it out well with carb cleaner and a toothbrush. If a chunk of carbon dislodges it can block the pintle and keep it from closing which causes stalling and dying. I had the same problem with my '93 Sonoma pickup.

OK that sounds like a good candidate since everything else I was checking would probably cause it to not run or run bad all the time, this problem is intermittent and I can see how the egr might just stick open during half a revolution or so.
Thank you for your help!
