Default ABS issues

Hello, I just aquired a '92 S10 Blazer and its having issues with the ABS system. Was curious if there was an easy way to check the codes or if anybody might have some insight as to what the issue might be.

The abs and park brake light both come on around 40 mph and flicker on and off while driving above said speed. Also on occasion the brake pedal with become rock hard and the brakes don't work at all, then can hear a motor run, assume its the one on the abs block, and the pedal will drop and brakes work as normal. Thanks for any help.

Sounds like you have a failing wheel speed sensor. They can get dirty over time. You may get lucky and just have to clean the WSS. Give it a try at least. While you have things apart, check the wiring to the WSS for signs of damage.

sorry if this is considered a hijack, but what about if both the abs and parking brake light stay on all the time? the brake is harder than ususal when stopping and the abs definitly doesnt work because i had to slam the brakes one time and the wheels locked up the the car started to skid

This sounds exactly what I've been experiencing on my 93. Except my ABS light never comes on (other than when I start the engine and all the check lights come on for a couple of seconds). And I get no codes.

Please report back if you check the WSS and/or if you find the issue.

If I can get to mine first I'll look into the WSS and reply back also.

It is not considered a hijack, this IS a hijack.

And you're having a totally different problem so please start a new thread.
