Default Best way to remove/install torsion bars?

I'm going to be taking the A-arms and torsion bars out of a blazer frame and putting them in my truck. My question is what is the easiest way to take out the torsion bars. I was thinking of taking out the A-arms first and then hitting them out of the arms. but i don't know if this is dangerous because it is a "spring". So if some one could give me steps on taking them out that'll be awsome...

You must remove the tension from the tbar before removing them, though I'm sure there is someone somewhere who will say you can do it if you do this or that. The tool is pretty pricey and I've yet to see anyone who rents/loans them.

Some have used a c-clamp, about 5" or so, and removed the swivel foot on the end of the stem. This leaves a ball on the end that fits nicely into the indention in the tbar key.

You will also want to let out on the adjustment bolts all the way and I've found it much eaiser to jack up the front end and let the LCA's drop to full droop. This just removes a bit more tension off the tbars before you use the tool to remove the keys.

You take the foot off the threaded end so the ball is left

hook the other end over the crossmember

align the ball into the little dimple on the porkchop

tighten until you have the pressure off the little bar that the bolt is in

take bolt out of said bar and bar slides out

loosen clamp and remove it

Do other side

if you use a c-clamp make sure it is a good one. I broke one of mine trying to do it. I ended up using a 2-jaw puller that i got from autozone for around 20 bucks. worked perfectly.

Hi, I'm trying to remove my torsion bars to replace all of the front end bushings. I tried the method described above which is also in the Haynes manual, using a 2-jaw puller but it isn't working.

When I get the 2-jaw puller loaded up in there and remove the bolt and bar, the puller is so tight that I can't really unscrew it and it even started to bend the lips of the crossmember down in the 2 places where it was mounted.

I am using a 3" (OEM Brand) puller. Do you remember what size or brand puller you used?

My car is outside w/o front wheels sitting on jacks, so any quick help would be much appreciated. Thank you!
