I posted this yesterday but got it in the wrong place.I put it in the new people page.I have a 1987 2.8 s10 blazer that I just got. The timing is off and I am having trouble getting the dist bolt loose.I can feel a bolt in the back, but cant get a wrench on it.Is there a special wrench for this or am I trying the wrong bolt? Also what size bolt will it be when I find it? Thanks guys ,I hope I have the correct thread this time.

You sure the bolt isn't up front? Usually they are in the front passenger side and take a 9/16 wrench. They can be a royal pain. Just did one on a 90 that never been done. Had to use a 1/4 inch breaker bar and a pipe to get it free. I was told they sell a special tool for getting at that bolt

Nope, it's not up front. I know, I own an 87 S-10 Blazer and just rebuilt the 2.8L that was in it. Yes, that bolt is a pain in the royal **** to get to due to the wiring harnass falling in the way. On the backside of the distributor you can find the bolt. Just run your hand down the backside of it. For the life of me I can't remember the exact size of the bolt, but I was able to loosen and tighten this bolt using 2 extensions. A 4" and a 6" extension. You have to get the socket with both extensions on the bolt first then you can attach the ratchet. It will be at a slight angle but with a little finesse it will break loose.
When checking the timing on these with a light, you need to look in the passenger side inside the truck up against the wall under the dash. There is one wire that has an easy to pull apart clip. Just one single wire. Pull this wire apart at that clip and your timing is not run by the computer anymore. When hooked up the computer will advance your timing, so it may look off if this is not disconnected.

I finally found the bolt and used a crowsfoot to lossen it.I ..never did get it timed and now I know why.I will look for that wire tomorrow and give it another go. Thanks to you both for your help. The bolt that held mine was a 14 metric.

I have a 9/16 wrench that I used a torch to heat up so I could bend both ends about 2 inches from the box and open ends, works wonderful as a distrubutor wrench!

It may have been a 15mm.I was so glad to get it to turn after trying different sizes I really didnt look.It fit ,it moved,im happy.Im gutting the interior now to change it from red to the charcoal color and I have a question. Is it easier to paint the dash as opposed to changing it out? If painting is the answear,is ther a special paint for this?

I've never done this so I can't say any certain brand, but you don't just want regular paint or it will crack in the sunlight. I think you'll need a paint that is good on plastic. Just remove the dash and clean it good with soap and water. Don't use acetone as it can melt certain plastics.
