I was filling up my vehicle yesterday and all of a sudden right at 16 gallons I saw gas pouring out from under my truck I was ticked! My question is how good are the seals at the top of the tank and the filler pipe as well? If I have to replace tank should I stay steel or go plastic thanks for advice.
I saw today that gas is running on the drivers side tank strap cause anyone?

all that was available to me was a steel tank. even if it lasts as long as your last one, thats still 20 years. I dont think you can get one in plastic. get yourself some new straps too.

Your tank is steel, its just protected by a plastic skid cover. The lock ring on top could be deformed if someone else has replaced the pump before and didnt get a new lock ring and O-ring. You could also be just rusted out and need a new tank. Climb under there with a flash light and start looking around for any holes or dampness.
