Dual alternators question
#22
i think i have found out which wire to tap into. its the brown or maby a black wire. but in my hanes manual it says its brown. that must be the exciter wire for the alt. cause the other wire just goes into the dash for the digital dash option. at least thats what the hanes book said. and the 97 wire matches up with the 94 brown wire location on the plug. will try it tomorrow or when it stops rainin here

ok got it hooked up. the connector on both alts say plfs the f pin being the only one used on the 97 alt. so i spliced into it and ran it to othe 97 alt. turn the truck on and no voltage out of the alt. only about half a volt. original alt charging like it should. but the second alt aint charging at all. so i hooked up my spare battery to the back post and it started charging. 14.3 volts. unhooked the battery from it. still outputing voltage. and hook up my fans to it and nothing. down to half a volt again. the fans spin for a second or two then nothing. hooked up the battery to it again and it started charging right away again at 14.3 volts. so what im thinking its powering itself down to prevent failure to the alt. computer power supplies do the same thing when the positive shorts out. so gonna have to hook up the spare battery to it. gotta get some monster cables. then maby an amp and a sub idk.

Maybe I've had too many beer or didn't read things right. But Id' say if you hooked them up in parallel the voltage regulators are reading off eachother. Doing what they're supposed to. They (both) see 14.3 volts so why bother adding more?!
If in series (14.3 x 2) they'll fry the system, depending on what they go to (your other battery. Have that battery & alt hooked up just for fans.
I wonder if a battery isolator could be used between the 2 in parallel?!

yea i was gonna have the second alt charging a second battery. so they dont fight each other. or leave it like it is. get a bigger alternator. someday.... when i actually find one in a pull a part for cheap. and was wondering how to make these alts put out ac voltage to run power tools like drills and sawzalls. all alts produce ac current. like i said back in the 80s my buddy had his alternator on his ford pickup produciing ac current and was running power tools off it. it was not inverter. he had a extension cord hooked up to the back of his alternnator going to the fron of his grille. but that was in the early 70s trucks that didnt have a internal regulator. so im not sure if it would work with the newer cs130s
