Default Dying & occassional loss of ?power?

93' S10 Blazer 4x4, 4.3 Vortec, v.W. Month ago replaced fuel pump w/ an AC Delco pump, fuel pump relay, fuel pump fuse & fuel filter. 2 weeks ago it passed smog. Now right after starting it'll die but starts right back up no problem. While driving it seems to lose power (not really sputtering or dying) but like not getting fuel, then it does and goes but when I come to a stop it'll die and start right back up no problem. When I sit in my drive way while in park with accelerator down it doesn't die or sputter at all, only while in drive and driving. I took it to a mechanic and it wasn't throwing any codes and they couldn't tell me anything (wasted money). Check engine & service engine soon lights work but they're not on (or wouldn't have passed smog). I've also replaced PCV and EGR. Last year I also replaced the ignition coil and the ignition moduel. Any suggestions well be deeply appreciated my Blazer friends!!!!

Open the hood. you see the "vortec" emblem on top of the engine? remove it and the thing under it. Look inside the intake manifold with a flashlight. You see any "washed/cleaned/light" colors? If so you have a issue with the fuel pressure regulator, nut kit or injectors. A common problem with the early vortecs. Inside is sapposed to be black and dirty looking. Any light color area's and its time to replace things.

@ chris015, thank you sir. I got the Chiltons and it looks kinda do-able for even a "musician try'n to be a mechanic" like myself. I was told to check the fuel pressure too before diving in that far. Would you happen to know what the pressure level should be or what I should be looking for while checking the pressure that would indicate that might be the problem?

When you turn the key on the pressure should be 55-60. it must beable to hold a pressure above 52 for 10 minutes. If it leaks down 95% chance its the regulator. If i were you id replace the whole spider assembly (which is what is inside) You can replace the lines inside that can leak, you can even just replace the regulator. But these combos were weaknesses with the cpi engine. Plus these cars are getting old.

Read this article that was made on here. Everything you need to know about replacing it etc and what to look for.

Once again gentlemen, thank you very much! I'm going to replace the whole Fuel Injector Spider assembly along with the Fuel Feed & Return Lines. Next question: Which brand of Spider Fuel Injector Lines? And... is Dorman a good brand for the Feed & Return Lines (nut assembly)? Yahl rock!!!!!

Hey Cackster- another musician here. I replaced the spider and nut kit in my wife's '93 Jimmy. I used the Sorenson injectors from Autozone and the Dorman nut kit from some other local parts store. It's a really straightforward job and not too difficult.

Thanx bro! Did you have a hard a time as I am getting the star bolt off the bracket to take out the Fuel Feed and Return Lines (Nut Kit)? and did you put teflon tape on the threads when you hooked up the new lines? Also, how does your ride run now?

It was tricky to take the retaining bolt out of the nut kit clip. The hardest thing is getting the star wrench on the bolt. There's not much clearance around it.

Her Jimmy runs very well now. I've put a lot of work into it. Besides replacing the spider and nut kit I've also replaced the rear glass lifters, O2 sensor, MAP sensor, IAT sensor, PCV valve, stereo, speakers and transmission. The transmission was a huge job (and I didn't jack the body off the frame) but I got it done. I had it rebuilt by a local guy who's a retired mechanic and transmission specialist. It's a damn nice rig. Once I get back from my Montana gig I'm going to rebuild the front end. It needs upper and lower ball joints, outer tie rod ends and an idler arm.

I learned at least half of what I know about Blazers/Jimmys/Bravadas right here from the brilliant members.
