Default earlt CPI question

I believe I'm chasing a defective reman'd spider assembly for my '94 CPI 4.3

my question is this.. is it normal to be smacked in the face by the smell of raw fuel when you pull the upper half of the intake off? (I'm getting ready to send my spider in to be re-re-man'd) it's been at least a couplle-three weeks since it last ran... (and I only idled it to do some data logging at the time)

I had a CPI on a 92 and had one of the fairly rigid hoses/tubes that fed fuel to the injector unit spring a leak. A narrow seam opened up and it would spray fuel into the area adjacent to the injector(s). Confusingly, the parts to fix this I think are called a "nut kit."

for various reasons,I have replaced the entire fuel system. Tank, Pump, Lines, Filter, CPI Spider and the nylon fuel lines.
