Alright guys with CPI engines... Or anyone with experience with them...
(1995 GMC Jimmy CPI balance shaft engine bored .030 over OBD 1.5)
I had the infamous oil pressure sensor wire rub through so had to fix that... Thats not the issue but thats where my issue started. So of course to get back to that I had to pull the upper intake and distributor. Well since putting all that back together I get the infamous flashing SES light.... Ok so misfire so my first guess is well the distributor isnt right. So I fixed that tonight to just double check and make sure that isnt my problem. Well the truck is running rich like the CPI spider is bad. AGAIN! This is the third one if that is the case. And I am getting the tick in the top end of the engine (some of you know that can be the FPR going bad.) So I pull the upper intake and I have the fuel pooling in both sides of the intake.. Why do I keep loosing these stupid spiders? And I have done tons of research and trying to find a different intake and injector set up and there isnt a whole lot out there. If I could afford it I would drop a v8 in and solve all my dang issues but being a broke college kid thats not really an option. Any ideas/help/ advice would be appreciated.

Well when you took the intake apart im assuming you pulled the spider out which you are never ever supposed to do after you install it for the first time. they are really fragile so if you took it out and put the injectors back in something probably got damaged.

No I did not remove the spider. There was no reason to remove the spider for what I was doing. I just had the upper out to get behind the distributor. I never touched the spider.
Well thankfully the spider is under warranty so a new one will be here on Tuesday. I swear this is the last time I am replacing this. If it goes bad again Ill invest the money in changing the intake to a tbi setup or a marine intake or something. I am sick of fighting CPI problems.

You could reinstall the spider and turn the key to the on position with the plenum off to see if any fuel squirts anywhere. could actually be the line before the fuel spider. I herd people breaking the secnd gen vortec spiders easily so just be careful when you put the new one in

If you are thinking of going the computer less route, find a pick and pull junk yard and start searching for the older 4.3 blocks/ short block that don't have the counter balancer and have the mechanical fuel pump on the block. Shares the same parts as an old small block Chevy (cheap parts). I found a complete low mileage short block in California and left the junkyard paying only $150 for the engine. Got a HEI distributor with vacuum advance and had the whole engine rebuilt/ assembled for $550. I was cheap and even scrounged an old 2 barrel carb from an old junker.
No computers. God I loved that engine.
