Thanks for the reply..I tried that, and other places online too, but it didn't help...I don't want to buy one. What I'm trying to do is use an ALDL cable to interface my car's computer to my laptop. The software package I'm trying to use wants the type (number) of the ECM..EVERYBODY sells them, but nobody lists the number I need. It will be something like "1227165" or "16196395" Those are both GM ECM numbers, but there's many more and I can't find out which one is in the 93 S10.

The ECM i have out of a 93 cpi 4.3 4x4 has a serv.no. 16168625 BBNX. It is on a two piece sticker that also has the #16179601 BBNX. Hope that helps.

Thanks a lot, Blazenlow, I really appreciate your effort but it looks like as with everything else on this car, they didn't have a system, they just did it on the spur of the moment...I can see most of the number on the ECM that's crammed under the dash, it's 1614880. I can't tell if there's another digit or not. so that's at least 3 different numbers for the same car. I guess they just used whatever they had on hand. I guess it doesn't matter tho.. if the computer ever goes out the whole car's going to the junkyard. I wouldn't put the price of another ECM in the car.
