Default Electrical Problem - 94 4.3

Got past intake issues...driving the car today and the voltmeter is running around 16-17 volts then drops below 14 and the battery light comes on. Battery is less than a month old. Is there a separate voltage regulator or is it in the alternator. This has happened before but I thought it was related to the bad idle problem I was having.

Believe your regulator is in the alternator. If you think there is something wrong there take the alternator to Autozone, O'Reilly's or some other A/P store and they will test it for free. They really should load ot up so you'll know if you have a blown diode, etc. Actually 99% of the time the field brushes are worn down. They male a killing on guys who don't understand electrical systems.
