Default not sure but I think that I have an electrical problem<S>

Ok so it started when I was on my way home from work my cluster lights worked but only on the last notch on the dimmer then it went out(turn signals, mileage, gas light and all the other check engine type of lights worked) what didnt work was the lights that lit up my speed, tach and gauges ok thats no big deal so its the 4th of july and i goto a friends house but my truck wont shift so i checked all the fuses nothing! everything was good so then I waited like 45 minutes started up a drove like nothing ever happened 4.3l 2002

Help

If anyone has a clue why this happens, let me know as well. If I try to turn dimmer down, all lights go out as well.
