Default Fuel Pump Advice

I have to replace the fuelpump in my 87 blazer. It's an electric pump in the tank. I was just wondering if there were any good tips/techniques to do this. Much appreciative.

You might wanna get that knock fixed 1st lol. But anyways Its pretty much straight forward, remove a cover,hoses,2 straps and it falls down. Just make sure you do it when the tanks empty. gas is heavy.

Oh and just so you wont make a new thread later on "my fuel pump isnt working!" PLease ONLY buy ac delco or delphi pumps. Carter and airtex brands do not like these blazers at all. Trust me ive been through them. Ac delco pumps are rarely a miss.

Well, not to quibble - TOO MUCH- but if your engine has fuel pressure reqs of 40 lbs or below, you have more good options than later models.

AC Delco and Delphi are always first and second choice but Bosch, Denso and Walbro will work good too. I'm only throwing out names of those that make quality pumps.
May not be available in assemblies, which I suggest you get given the age of your truck.

Stay away from Airtex, no matter what system you're using. Their fuel level senders suck

ohh i know it knocks because it did when we first got the truck, then after it sat a little when we went to start it once it would never turn over. and after my bro and dad helped me diagnose it, we realized it was the same as my dads truck and that the fuel pump is shot. btw just to clarify so i don't sound totally stupid or offend anyone this is my first car(16 years old) and i am new to the car world so i'm picking stuff up as i go.

Well, chris.. I didnt see any reference to need for walk-up availability.

And I mentioned the other names just in case he dropped the tank and saw the assy cover was relatively new and decided to replace the pump rahter than the whole thing.

For instance you can get a Walbro 255 for well under 100. Some applications also have Bosch kits available

Even some like 'TRE' whoever they are, might be a good choice.

Dunno I would take a chance, but they put their rep on the line with that, dont they.

Ah ok. I guess walbro is a online deal. I was looking around and RockAuto Auto Parts has the ac delco pump for 40 bucks. part # EP386. Its cheaper then a airtex. Ive purchased from them before and they have always been legit.

I agree. and btw.. Rockauto has the best part finding index I've ever seen. None of the circuitous 'select your car' crap like NAPA's

And it really makes it easy to cross refernece parts between years and models. just open in two different tabs
