Default Have some '90 & '92 Blazer Q's....

Hi you all!! I've got two S-10 Blazers that I need ALOT of advice on, as I'm more of a Mopar guy, but REALLY like these Blazers! So I'll start w./ the basics. They are both the V-6/4.3 ltr.; std. trans.; and are 4x4's.

Q: Will ANY/ALL of the drivetrain parts interchange? Or are the trannys, or transfer cases apt to have different mounts/tabs/brackets on them? Are the frames and related mounting holes for ALL drivetrain components EXACTLY alike?

Q: One of my Blazers has 170K miles and needs a head gasket, is it worth fixing? I've heard these 4.3's (is the '92 a Vortec or no?), will last well over 200K miles if you treat them right. Is this hype, or is this generally true?

Q: My other Blazer has a little over 200K on the chassis. Is it also worth fixing? Both vehicles seem to have solid and straight frames which is basically all I care about if they're worth fixing.

Will enjoy any/all feedback you all can send my way, as I know nada about S-10 Blazers... Thanks!!!

I'd say they both sound like they are worth fixing. These motors can go for a long time and 200k is not unheard of.

As far as interchange-ability, they should be practically identical in how components mount. Your '90 likely has a manual shift transfer case while the '92 could have the electronic shift. They both should have the 4L60 (700R4) transmission. The '90 has the TBI motor while your '92 sounds like it has the CPI motor so there you have engine management differences necessitating wiring differences, but they mount in the same way.

Thanks Swartlkk. I thought the 700R4 is an automatic? Could've sworn I've seen the 700R4, and 200R-somethin' or t'other pop up over the years. I've got standard trannies in boh my S-10's. But I never paid much attention as I was still using TH-400's and still have a TH-350 in my truck. I like those old "slip and slides", even though I'm a Mopar/727 guy "by birth"---heee, heee, heee. J/K!!! Thanks again!

The 700R4 can be made into a stout transmission. Heck, they were used behind diesels. They have some short comings, but if you are going through a rebuild, the aftermarket has pretty much fixed most if not all of the problem areas.

I have a few TH350s and a TH400 under my dad's barn just hangin' out right now. One of the TH350's is from my Chevelle which is all torn apart at the beginning stages of a frame off restoration. I will likely use the 700R4 out of my parts Suburban in my Chevelle. I'll keep the TH350 that is currently in my K5 because it has been very consistent and sharp at shifting.
